About us

We met at Brighton University while studying to be Primary Teachers. Thirty years later, with a wealth of experience behind us, we wanted to do something to help all children become confident and resilient learners, enabling them to achieve at school and beyond.

your time to shine

Paul Leinster

During my teaching career, I have enjoyed seeing children learn and grow. It was this that inspired me to set up B-right-on Learning, along with my partner as we both believe that every child is important and with the right support and resources in place, everyone deserves a chance to succeed.

Having worked from Year 2 through to Year 6, I have gained an insight into what specifically can hold a child back and am determined to provide the necessary support to ensure their potential is unlocked.

My final years in teaching were in Year 6 and I saw at first hand the difficulties some children experienced while preparing for the National SATs tests. By applying certain techniques and approaches, I have built up an excellent record of making sure children achieve well in their tests, providing a secure foundation for future success at their secondary schools and beyond.

Sally Faulkner

I am an experienced, enthusiastic and caring teacher and love my job. At present I am Head of Year 4 at a local Primary School and lead on Mindfulness and Wellbeing. My experience has shown how a child feeling safe, happy, respected and valued is at the centre of all their learning.

I take delight every day in seeing pupils being happy and developing a love of learning. I encourage all children to take every opportunity and believe in themselves to be the best they can be. They are naturally curious and their happiness and confidence needs to be nurtured in order for them to learn effectively and reach their full potential, not only in their learning, but in all areas of their lives.

I have 30 years of experience working in a number of Primary Schools across Brighton and Hove. During this time, I have seen a lot of changes in education and understand that children require skills, attitudes and a variety of different learning techniques in order for them to succeed. I feel passionate about preparing them for this and so, along with my partner decided to begin B-right-on Learning to encourage children to be excited and enthusiastic about their own personal learning journey.

Mel Lawrence

I have been teaching for 13 years from Reception to Year 6. My experience has given me a deep understanding of children’s needs across all primary age groups. My passions and enthusiasm allied to this experience enables me to create environments where children are inspired, challenged and supported to grow and develop both academically and as individuals.

Currently I am working as Early Years Lead and class teacher at an infant school; previously I have taught in both SATs years and know the pressures that children are under to achieve. I am skilled at creating an environment where the children in my care develop in confidence and feel able to take risks in their learning.

The greatest joy is the moment when a child who thinks they can’t do something suddenly realises they are capable of anything they put their mind to. Tutoring provides the opportunity to work 1:1 or in a small group and really work out how to help a child succeed.

Lisa Bryant

Hello, my name is Lisa and I have been teaching for over 20 years. I have taught throughout the primary range and have owned and managed my own nursery. My passion is early years, and ensuring that younger children get the very best start to their education, building strong foundations for their learning journey. I hold Primary QTS as well as Early Years Teacher Status.

I am currently teaching in Year 1 in a school in Brighton. I have enjoyed the transition from the EYFS, where children are at the early stages of reading and writing through to key stage 1 where they are using full sentences and developing quality writing. I am passionate that by nourishing a child’s desire to learn, great outcomes can be achieved.

I look forward to supporting your child with their own learning and development.

Jane Hall

Hello, I’m Jane and I am a qualified Primary School teacher with over 28 years experience as a KS1 class teacher and intervention teacher.

I know that children flourish in a consistent, safe and secure learning environment where they can improve, achieve and take risks. I use lots of strategies to encourage and motivate where children can feel happy and produce their best learning.

Young children thrive on praise and reward and this is always an effective route to improving their confidence and self- belief when faced with a challenge.

I use a variety of strategies that are fun and will encourage your child to develop their knowledge and enable them to grow in confidence. I look forward to helping your child on their learning journey.

Kerri Howard

I have been working in Primary Education for 9 years, in KS1 and KS2, working closely with Sally as one of her teaching assistants in Year 4.

Currently, I am a Year 5 TA, where my responsibilities include taking smaller groups of children, who are finding the lesson – based learning difficult, and working at a level that enables them to understand, retain and succeed. These small groups give the children confidence to voice their ideas and ask for help. This leads, more often than not to my favourite experience in education, those “lightbulb” moments of recognition, understanding and pride.

Maths is my favourite subject to teach, it was my choice of study during Higher Education, along with Science. I also enjoy teaching Literacy interventions to years 3, 4 and 5. This involves phonics, reading, comprehension and spelling. I also work with a group of children where we concentrate on speech and language difficulties.

I believe that for children to succeed within education they need to feel calm and confident, something that I strive to deliver to all of the students that I come into contact with.

Vicki Adatia

Hi, my name is Vicki. I am a qualified HLTA (higher level teaching assistant) with over 20 years experience in Primary Education. I have taught throughout the year groups, covering lessons from Reception to Year 6, which includes experience of preparing children for their SATs.

I have always had a passion for teaching, and find supporting children with their learning and development very rewarding. I thrive on finding ways to adapt lessons to make learning accessible for each individual learner.

Whilst most people disliked home schooling during lockdown, I thoroughly enjoyed it. As I am very creative, I loved finding ways to make learning interactive, fun and engaging. Being a busy mother to 3 of my own children, during the rare moments of free time, I am currently learning BSL ( British Sign Language), which ensures inclusion for all.

Alison R Palmer

I have been a primary school teacher for more than 19 years and I have taught children of all abilities from year 2 to year 6.

I always want children to be excited and curious about their learning and proud of what they achieve. So I focus on teaching creatively and giving children experiences in lessons which they can relate to so they are consistently actively engaged with their learning.

I understand that children learn at different rates and in different ways and so I tailor my teaching to cater to individual needs to ensure every child reaches their full potential in their own time and their own way.
